K17: Fire Relief Benefit Concert
Dear Friends,
The recent events will remain in our memories for a long time as a tragedy and a profound loss. It is difficult to comprehend the scale of what has happened. Thousands of people have been left without a roof over their heads, and this disaster has not spared our musical community. Hundreds of musicians have fallen victim to the fires and are in need of help.
While assistance will come from the government, nothing can replace the help of one person to another. We have decided to cancel our scheduled concert and instead hold a Fire Relief Benefit Concert to support the musicians who have been affected. It is with sadness that we have learned that the venue that we have enjoyed so many evenings of music and good company is amongst the shocking number of houses lost. Our thoughts are with the Mandabach family and those who have suffered and are suffering as a result of these fires.
The Village Studios has generously offered us their venue, and all the musicians participating in the concert are doing so entirely voluntarily. Composers Aaron Zigman, Anna Drubich, Harry Gregson-Williams, James Newton Howard, Marco Beltrami, Peter Golub and Stephanie Economou have agreed to conduct their own works in support of their colleagues, and for this we are deeply grateful to each of them. It is especially meaningful that among the concert participants are those who have lost their homes and work studios.
Let us do the most important thing we can—support those who are in need. It is within our power. As long as we stand together we are strong.
